Question

I have some fat under my chin I would like to get rid of. Would kybella be a good option? If so, how many vials would I need during the first session? & would I need more than one session? Thank you.

Thank you for your question about Kybella. It is impossible to accurately quote you without an in person consultation.  I will tell you that most patients need 3-4 sessions with at least 2-4 vials.  Kybella is amazing and our patients have had great results.  Kybella works great at dissolving fat as well as offering mild skin tightening as well.  Every person is different and I would hate to mislead you.  
 
 To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment.

Kybella treatment may reduce the fat pocket beneath your chin, but jawline liposuction to include the area beneath your chin would give you a well contoured, youthful jaw and chin appearance. Liposuction can be accomplished in the office and is safe and predictable. Only one treatment is necessary. The results using Kybella are less predictable and require more than one treatment in most cases. In addition, it does not improve the jawline. I perform both Kybella injections and liposuction, and my bias towards liposuction is from experience. Good luck

There are many options for chin/jawline contouring but the best is liposuction + internal heating with or without internal threads for someone with your small amount of fat and laxity.  Kybella will take numerous treatments to see any results.Options include:
1) botox for masseter hypertrophy or platysma muscle/neck bands
2) ThermiRF, J plasma or renuvion internal heating3) Thermage or Ultherapy external heating 
4) PDO Novathreads or instalift threads for lifting

Dear deChanel,Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office.  I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable.  It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.Daniel Barrett, MD

You'll need an in-person evaluation, but you have a few options to improve your neck. Both Kybella or neck liposuction are good options and will improve the double chin. It depends on your lifestyle and personality which would be better for you. 
Kybella is best for patients that:
1)  Do not want surgery 
2)  Are not surgical candidates 
3)  Not willing to wear a compression dressing around the face for 1 week 
4)  Patient-  The results of Kybella will take months
Kybella take 1-3 treatments every 6 weeks.  Patient will develop swelling and possible bruising after each injection that may last a few days.  The benefit of Kybella is each treatment is quick and completed in the office. However, some patients need more than one treatment to get desired results. 
Neck Liposuction is best for patients that:
1)  Want a single treatment 
2)  One recovery time-  Downtime for neck liposuction require wearing a wrap around face for 1 week. 3)  Less painful 
4)  Quicker results 
5)  Cost is a concern
Neck liposuction is a quick surgical procedure that can be complete while the patient is awake.  It cost around the same price a Kybella and can be less in patients with heavier necks.  The single recovery of neck liposuction may be a better option for some patients.

Usually 2 to 3 vials are used per treatment and it generally takes 2 to 3 treatments to get the results most patients are looking for. Please consult with a board certified provider in your area for additional questions and to determine if you are a good candidate.

I do a great deal of Kybella in the office and it is difficult to tell from the photo if you have much fat in the submental area.  I find the best combination to treat this area is to treat the neck with Thermage for skin tightening followed by Kybella to dissolve the submental fat.  Please consult an expert in Kybella for the best cosmetic results.  Best, Dr. Green

You have a very nice jaw line. I do not recommend the use of Kybella for your jaw line. You will benefit more from skin tightening such as Thermage or Ultherapy.

Thank you for posting your photos. Your neck can be improved by removing some of the fat under the chin area. This can be done easily with KYBELLA injections. Kybella can cause some mild to moderate swelling and requires at least 2-3 treatments to see a dramatic difference and you need to wait about 6 weeks between treatments. Another option for some patients would be liposuction, this will give you immediate results with a single procedure. For the best treatment options, it is important to visit an expert for an in-person examination. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your question and posting pictures.  We have discontinued Kybella in our practice for melting submental fat.  The FDA recently approved the SculpSure laser for treating submental fat (double chins).  It is a quick 25 minute, completely non-invasive treatment.  In the FDA study, the participants had 100% satisfaction after 1 or 2 treatments.  If you look at the Kybella FDA studies, there is high satisfaction after an average of 6 treatments.  I did SculpSure recently and it was only mildly uncomfortable.  I had no noticeable swelling.  With Kybella, you will have noticeable swelling for 1-4 weeks.  Best of luck.
