If I get fat transferred to my hips and no fat to my buttocks would I be able to sit or not? because when you have fat transferred to your buttocks then you can't sit for many weeks. But no where does it say about hip fat transfer.
Answer: If I was to get fat transfer to the hips and not to the buttocks, could I still sit or would this kill the fat? Thanks for your question. Postoperatively, no specific position is indicated and we do not have any sitting restrictions. The pressure caused by sitting is not sufficient to affect viability of the fat cells and so the postsurgical position depends basically on comfort and any other operations that have been performed. That said, you definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety. Best is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

Answer: If I was to get fat transfer to the hips and not to the buttocks, could I still sit or would this kill the fat? The positioning is still important based upon where the fat is placed. Ask the PS who performs your lipo and fat transfer for the post-operative protocol you should follow.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Fat viability Dear jordy275,I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. Fat viability depends a lot of surgeon technique. The fat has to be placed back into the buttocks as soon as possible so that it has a greater chance of survival. It has to be placed carefully so that not too much fat is placed in only one area.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: If I was to get fat transfer to the hips and not to the buttocks, could I still sit or would this kill the fat? Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. You would still need to use a bobby pillow after fat transfer to the hips. I recommend my patients not to sit for more than 30 mins. every two hours, for the first 2 weeks. If you have any concerns, I suggest you to follow up close with your plastic surgeon. Hope this is helpful. Good luck :)
