Hi, I'm recently lost almost 100lbs and am now left with this large apron of fat...it is beginning to cause me pain. I am not done loosing weight, but was wondering if having it removed before i have reached my goal was ideal because of the pain it is now causing?
Answer: Lower body lift 360 circumferential lower body lift belt lipectomy massive weight loss extended tummy tuck Thank you for your question about the possibility of undergoing an apron removal surgery, such as a panniculectomy or a tummy tuck, before reaching your ideal body weight. Surgery Prior to Ideal Body Weight: Yes, it is possible to have your abdominal apron removed even if you have not yet reached your ideal body weight. While reaching your target weight is "ideal," it is not an absolute requirement for the surgery. Importance of Overall Health: Your overall health is a crucial factor in determining your eligibility for the surgery. This includes a comprehensive preoperative assessment involving a thorough history and physical examination, along with routine tests like bloodwork, an EKG, and a chest x-ray. Considerations for Post-Surgery: You should be aware that further weight loss after the surgery might necessitate additional revisions or repeat procedures to achieve optimal results. Ideally, undergoing the surgery once you've reached your ideal body weight is preferable to minimize the need for future surgeries. In conclusion, while it's generally recommended to wait until you've reached your ideal body weight, undergoing an apron removal surgery beforehand is still an option, provided you are in good health. However, be prepared for the possibility of needing further surgeries if you continue to lose weight post-procedure. I hope this information helps you in making an informed decision about your surgical journey. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Can I still get my fat apron removed if I have not reached my weight goal? Hello, thanks for your question. If your fat apron is making it difficult for you to exercise and live comfortably, then you want to consider having it removed sooner. However, if you undergo a tummy tuck or body lift procedure and continue to lose weight, your results may be affected since your contours will change. If possible, I would recommend waiting until you have met your fat loss goals before moving forward with any type of skin removal or body contouring procedure. If you have any additional questions or would like to discuss the topic in more depth, thenschedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. Best of luck to youon your weight loss journey!

Answer: Tummy Tuck or panniculectomy Yes it is possible to remove your pannus before your ultimate weight loss. In fact, I sometimes remove the pannus easy on during our planned body contouring procedures in order to help a patient to achieve their ultimate weight loss goal. Understandably, a large pannus can be painful, prohibiting mobility and excercise and be uncomfortable to say the least. You can view our extensive plastic surgery after weight loss before and afters below.

Answer: Not at goal weight? Congratulations on losing your 100 ponds. I would suggest to you that your large apron of skin is keeping you in pain and keeping you from achieving your weight loss goals as it makes it harder to exercise. With a formal consultation, I can provide you with an estimate of how much the excess skin weighs and how much closer successfully removing the skin will get you closer to your goal. Thanks for your question.
