I had lower eyelid surgery thinking it would keep the eye shape I currently have but make everything bigger but instead it completely changed my eye shape and I hate my result now. Is there anyway to get my old eye shape back? There is severely asymmetry with the eye shapes as well. I did a lower and lateral canthoplasty in Korea and would do anything to get my old eye shape back. Is this hopeless or is there anything I can do?
Answer: Post eyelid surgery The shape of your lower lids is not significantly changed. However your upper lids look very altered, and this is what makes your eye shape so different. The skin of the upper lid was removed, and probably some of the fat so you now have a distinct crease and platform, and the eyelid is at a higher position. This is what makes the eyes appear rounder. Unfortunately there is not an easy way to correct this. Some filler to the upper lids may help to lower the appearance of the crease.

Answer: The lateral canthoplasty performed in Korea is different than what surgeons are familiar with in North America. In South Korea, the lateral canthoplasty is actually a tissue advancement intended to make the eyes look bigger. In Western countries canthoplasty is a lower eyelid resuspension method to strengthen the insertion of the eyelid on the bone. I understand the rationale for these Korean surgeries. However, I have never personally seen one that is remotely successful. The effect is always something like what you have. While some may see this change as subtle the change is profound because people who met you for the first time are spending time trying to figure out what is wrong. Generally it is possible to repair this work by repairing the insertion of the lateral canthus. Precisely what you need to reconstruct this will very much depend on physical finding present in the eyelids. This can vary from simply repositioning the lateral canthal angle to much more elaborate reconstructive methods involving a vertical lift of the cheek and use of implant materials to aid in the permanent recruitment of soft tissue into the area. A personal consultation is needed to determine this.

Answer: Eye shape restoration As long as you can clearly articulate the change you want, it's likely possible by office revision eyelid procedure.Your lower palpebral aperture shape appears unchanged or improved, and upper eyelids look nice!! Your surgeon did a perfect operation, in my opinion.

Answer: Lower eyelid surgery The change in your lower eyelid is not very noticeable, however it is made your eyes more noticeable due to the double eyelid surgery as well. You may benefit from a canthal resuspension of the lateral canthal tendon to its original spot however it may be very difficult to restore your eyes exactly to the way they were. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MDBoard-Certified Plastic Surgeon
