Chalazion (for ~6 months) - Steroid shot OR Chalazion removal?

Surgery is not nearly as good and the injection either in terms of effectiveness or aesthetic result. While the medication dose is small, I would not inject you or do chalazia surgery on the eyelid while you are pregnant or breast feeding. In my opinion, Kenalog 10 is not nearly as effective as Kenalog 40. Is it safe, that is a question for your obstetrician and perinatologist. As an oculoplastic surgeons solely concerned about your safety, the continuity of your pregnancy, and the safety of your unborn child, I would not treat the chalazia at this time and recommend only conservative treatment at this time.

Most chalazia resolve with conservative treatment which usually includes  warm compresses and a topical antibiotic-steroid eye drops. If the chalazia doesn't clear both Kenalog injections and surgical removal are excellent options. Neither treatment should be an issue during pregnancy, however you should contact your obstetrician first.

Both are commonly used and both work often but not 100% of the time. Both can be done together. It's nice to have options. Consult your doctor about your pregnancy but there isn't a lot of evidence that either would affect the baby. But if you want no risk then delay until after you deliver.
