How common is bruising after a tear through filler injection?

How common is brusing after a tear through injection? Could the bruise look like I got knocked out, meaning big and ugly? I hear that men tend to bruise less. How long do fillers last?

Bruising and swelling will vary in each
patient. To help with bruising stop taking Aspirin,
Motrin, Advil, Vitamin E, Vitamin C And Fish Oil at least 7-10 days prior to your
appointment and for at least 3-5 days following treatment. After your filler treatment it is
important to ice the treated areas as much as possible for the first 24 hours. Avoid exercising and
keep your heart rate below 100 for at least 3-5 days. An excellent hyaluronic acid
filler for tear troughs is Restylane, it can last up to one year in this area.

Some bruising and swelling is expected after eyelid tear trough filler injection, whether if injected with needle or cannula. It usually can be covered with makeup. Rarely, person can get unlucky and get a bad bruise.

Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon to have bruising after injection. Juvederm is not recommend for the tear trough area because the skin is very thin and can lead to persistent swelling. I recommend having the filler dissolved with hyaluronidase, and replaced with Restylane. Please make sure you are seeing an expert injector.

Bruising can occur after any injection in this area.  I like to inject the tear troughs using a microcannula instead of a needle.  This significantly lowers the risk of getting a bruise.  Most of the time I can avoid leaving a bruise by using the cannula technique.

Thanks for your question. We get this question often by patients. There is a good chance you will get bruising and/or swelling under the eyes with fillers. This depends on the injector technique but also other variables including your tendency to bruise. The chance if bruising can be decreased by avoiding certain things like aspirin, certain vitamins and alcohol up to 1 week prior. There are some advanced techniques that can be used as well like cannula injections by the injector. The bruising can last up to 7-10 days. Tear trough filler injections are an advanced technique so you need an experienced injector.
