Can someone have CoolSculpting done that has had an ileostomy?

Can someone have cool sculpting done that has had a ileostomy? My is closed now and I have a j pouch and haven’t had abdominal surgery for twelve years.

That's a good question. In most cases, it should be OK, but probably not a good idea to treat close to the ileostomy. This is something that is evaluated by your doctor prior to treatment. We recommend going to a medical practice that's CoolSculpting Certified to receive the best evaluation and treatment. Also, ask what applicators they have, there are currently 11 ct. different applicators on the market, the more applicators the better - this provides a better ability to customize/ optimize treatment.

As long as you are cleared to have Coosculpting by your Doctor, you can have Coolsculpting with an ileostomy. Keep in mind, some people need more than one treatment of Coolsculpting and for best results with Coolsculpting, I recommend a combination approach. I recommend adding radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish, Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing to improve your final results. See an expert. I would recommend dong CoolSculpting only after the ileostomy is reversed. There is currently no research information on treating patients with an ileostomy. If you are still interested in seeing if you are a candidate for the procedure, I would recommend going to a physician directed practice in order to get a proper in-person assessment.

As long as it is not performed near the ileostomy or over a hernia defect it should be fine.  I would recommend consulting with a plastic surgeon who performs coolsculpting.

Placement of the CoolSculpting applicators can be done to avoid any vulnerable areas.  Patients may have a history of abdominal surgery, hernias or even "ostomies" and still be treated.  The important thing to know is that the experience of the provider (with a strong medical knowledge) and the availability of the many applicator shapes and sizes are necessary for a safe and satisfying outcome. Some clinics only have one or two sizes.   I recommend that you have your assessment and procedure done at a medical office.
