How soon should I start embrace scar therapy after tummy tuck?

Question

I am 11 days post abdominoplasty. I have an appointment with my docs office to apply embrace at 17 days post surgery. Is it better to start sooner? Should I push my appointment up? Or is it really not a big difference between 14 days to 17 days?

Hello,Go to Amazon and get a role of 2 inch Hypafix tape. Start applying immediately. Use for two to three months. Embrace is problematic with issues of application and staying put. Best of luck!

Dear laney_bee,every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I recommend my patients to use silicone scar gel twice per day up to 12 weeks. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS

Thank you for your question. I usually recommend to start the scr therapy at 3 weeks. I do not think it will make any difference for 14 days to 17 days.

Hello, thank you for your recent question.  In our office I recommend you start embrace at 2 weeks post op.  If you already have an appt. on the 17th I don't think moving it up to the 14th would make a difference.  Best of luck!

In most cases, I have my patients begin Embrace scar therapy treatment at 14 to 21 days following abdominoplasty, depending on how well/rapidly the individual patient is healing.  17 day post op is a reasonable time to start the treatment and starting it 3 days earlier probably won't make a significant difference.  Check with your surgeon for their recommendations in your case.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
