Is there a way to treat this bumpy scar from double eyelid revision done 6 months ago? (Photo)

Question

I had double eyelid revision beginning of October. Now it’s rough about 6 months since my surgery. I notice that my scar is pretty noticeable still. Its hypertrophic and still has some discoloration. Should I be patient and wait another 6 months or have a consultation with a doctor for potential treatments for it? Any advice would be so helpful!!! Thanks.

You may benefit from 5FU injections which can lessen hypertrophic scars. I think it is worthwhile to see your surgeon or get a consultation about the scaring 6 months out if you are unhappy.

Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars.

Hello PD.  Your surgeon is correct in telling you that you will not likely be completely healed until 12 months. With that said, you may want to ask him about the possibility of injecting very small amounts or low doses of Kenalog or another steroid to speed the process or removing the hard scar tissue.  Best of luck.

As you wait another 6 months, scar will be fade away further. If you still wish to revise the scar after another 6 months, you can seek medical advice from medical professionals. Simply removing the small amount of skin includes the scar will resolve the issue.
