I had 1 syringe of volbella injected under each eye (total of 2 syringes) 8 days ago. This is my second time having filler. First time 1 year ago with no side effects. This time there are bumps under each eye that have yet to go away. My doctor said to give it 2 weeks. Is this a standard reaction? Should this smooth out within another week? Thanks in advance for any input.
Answer: Volbella Hi Sammiechewygracie! When using fillers in the “tear trough” (under eye) areas, we aim for correction not perfection. That said, your’s does look lumpy. BUT, I do agree with your doctor that you should give it a full 2 weeks for any residual swelling to go down. This type of filler acts by absorbing water from your body. The more hydrated you are, the better it looks. Different areas of the face tend to be more or less likely to swell after filler injections. If you look at a human skull, we do not have bone in the areas right around our eyes (nor do we have it under our lips). Thus, the areas around our eyes and our lips tends to swell more after filler injections than other areas of our face do after filler inevtipns [i.e. our cheeks or the areas between the corners of our nose and mouth (“nasolabial folds”)]. Give it the full 2 weeks, limit your sodium intake, sleep with your head elevated, take supplemental bromelain, and continue to ice when you can. If it’s still lumpy after that, return to your doctor and discuss strategically-placed hyaluronidase injections. Hyaluronidase is the antidote to this type of filler. As you should with any filler, always make sure your doctor is a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who has lots of experience doing facial injectables. I’m surprised almost daily by some of the stuff I see when people have filler injected by unqualified providers. You only have one face. . . Treat it well ;)Hope this helps!Dr. Kiripolsky

Answer: Bumps Under Eyes After Volbella Injections Hi Sammy,Sorry that you are having an adverse reaction to your recent Volbella injections in your under eye hollows area. This is not a standard reaction. I would advise revisiting your treating physician for evaluation and treatment. The most important aspect of facial filler injections is to choose your injecting physician most carefully based on their experience, skill, knowledge, and natural artistic vision. I hope that your complication from the injections resolves very soon. If your injector is unable to help you, then you should seek out help from an expert filler injecting physician. Good luck and be well.Dr. P

Answer: Lumps after Tear Trough Injections (Volbella, Restylane, Belotero) Results--reverse with hyaluronidase There can be some swelling and/or lumps after tear trough injections which can last 1-2 weeks. I would wait a full 2 weeks before assessing results. If you're unhappy with your final results you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: In general, bruising and swelling is to be expected but it typically resolves within two weeks. Thank you for your question! In general, bruising and swelling is to be expected but it typically resolves within two weeks. However, every patient heals at her own rate. I would suggest that you schedule an appointment with your injector to have this assessed in person. Always best to err on the side of caution. Best of luck!
