How long does chemosis last? I had a blepharoplasty on 12/20/17.

Question

On 1/2/18, I developed chemosis in one & it persists, despite drops, ointment, massage...I am so sick of having a watery, swollen eye. Some days it looks like it is going away, then it comes back. My Dr told me several months ago 'it takes time' How much time??

Chemosis can occur after a lower eyelid surgery.  IT usually resolves within several days to weeks.  So at 7 months it should be gone.  If the lower eyelid is too low, the chemosis may persist.  You may also have something called conjunctivochalasis which is loose, redundant conjunctiva.  This can be more pronounced after a lower lid surgery, and may cause tearing and can sometimes swell.  There are ways to help with these issues.  See an oculoplastic surgeon for help with deciding what you can do to improve the situation.
