Why am I bruised only on the right breast but not the left? ( Photos)

Question

I am 4 Days post op. I had my post op appointment yesterday. My PS said there are no signs of hematoma. The bruise on my right breast was not as bad as it is today. Is this normal? There is no pain at at all just normal soreness and nerve pain that comes and goes at both incision sites. I had not taken any ibuprofen until yesterday evening, could that have been what caused the bruising to appear more?

good morning!Late appearance of bruising can happen after breast augmentation surgery- it can take days for a small amount of blood deep in the tissues to migrate up near the surface where it is visible.If your surgeon is confident you do not have a hematoma all should be well.  Be sure to follow all postoperative instructions.I hope this helps

Although much bruising is uncommon in my practice, it is not uncommon to have more bruising on one side or the other.  It's always best to make your plastic surgeon aware.  Good luck.

Thank you for your question and pictures.My patients will ask (after undergoing a bilateral procedure) why one side behaves or feels differently than the other. My answer is because you had two separate surgeries on two separate parts of the body (yes they may both be breasts, or eyes, or ears and yes it may have been the same procedure). Sometimes one side doesn’t want to behave the same way as the other. Sometimes there are issues or problems which appear on one side vs the other. If the overall result appears symmetric to you (and it’s still early) be patient and listen to your surgeonBest wishes for a speedy recovery but I believe what you’re going through is a normal experience

Thanks for your question and the photos. Yes, it looks like you might have had a small hematoma on that one side and the small amount of blood settled to the bottom of the pocket. If the breasts are pretty much the same size, the likelihood is that your body will absorb this.Best of Luck!

It is not unusual to have some bruising after BA.  If your breasts are soft and symmetrical and you do not have swelling and pain on the bruised side then it is doubtful you have a hematoma, but it is always best to check with your plastic surgeon.

It is not too uncommon for one side or the other to have some bruising that may appear several days after surgery. The primary concern is with a collection of blood that requires drainage (hematoma).  As long as your surgeon has confirmed that that is not the case, this should resolve without any long-term problems.
