Thanks for your question. I'm sorry this happened to you. Facial abscesses are never fun but it sounds like you had a great doctor who followed you closely as you healed. 
You likely have localized facial lipoatrophy in that area due to the abscess (fat loss). You also probably have fibrous scar in the area surrounding the abscess. There are three main ways you can restore the volume there that has been lost. Filler, fat transfer, or an implant. I am not sure why you are not interested in permanently fixing the issue, but the only option that is NOT permanent would be filler.
Do you know what type of filler was used or where it was placed when you received treatment? The use of a deep and superficial filler combination may be more helpful in your case. You may find that the treatment lasts longer after getting filler in the area a couple times. You will definitely find that the money you spend with repeat injections will probably end up being greater over time than if you did a more definitive, permanent intervention from the start. Facial sculpting and contouring can be created with well-placed fillers (Voluma, Countour, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra, which would give improvement in facial balance. Fat or implants are alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Your best option by far are fillers. You may want to start with a filler that might not last as long so you can get a good idea of whether you like the results and spend less before you spend more money on a more expensive filler that lasts long, like Voluma. I would also stay away from permanent fillers. Good luck! 

I would start with undermining the sunken scar tissue with subcision and then combine filler with platelet rich plasma - low risk and minimal recovery for subcision and should get pretty good results
