I was reading a few articles on NCBI and saw studies showing that patients that have not had filler in 5+ years still had filler in their face which was supposedly proven with MRI imaging. This claimed that for example getting cheek filler over time can actually make your face appear more round as it is migrating to different areas of the face. Is there any truth to these articles? If yes, what would someone whose had filler done before do to get rid of the migrated filler in their face?
Answer: Migration of fillers HelloThank you for the consultation. Migration of fillers over time after 5 years is unlikely to happen if you are using FDA approved dermal fillers there are nonapproved fillers out there and silicone that can potentially cause migration years later. It important also to get treatment from doctor that is board certified and trained to inject dermal fillers and botox understand the anatomy of skin and different layers typically lower eyelid has the highest risk of migration of fillers because of infraorbital and zygomatic junction that create the sliding effect. Thank you

Answer: Fillers Hi,There is evidence that hyaluronic acid fillers "light up" on MRI imaging. It is important to remember that this does not necessarily mean that they can be obviously seen in real life. Fillers can migrate a short distance in areas such as the lips and under eyes and that is why not manipulating them or massaging the treated area is important. I am not sure there is any utility in dissolving fillers (except lip and under eyes) past a couple years post-treatment.Best,

Answer: Filler migration Fillers should not migrate. It’s very important to have a credentialed injector who is board certified in plastic surgery or dermatology and who purchases product from the manufacturer, and not gray market goods. it is well known that silicone can migrate, among other havoc, and this is not FDA approved for cosmetic use.

Answer: Do fillers migrate Fillers which are FDA-approved and are injected using a proper technique buy a plastic surgeon who is trained in such procedures should not move in any way, shape or form. The only area on the face where a small amount of movement can be seen with some fillers is in the lower eyelid area. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City plastic surgery

Answer: Migration of Fillers There is a lot of confusion on what happens to fillers. They can migrate, but only do so relatively soon after injection. After that they are relatively stable. They then are dissolved over time once the body recognizes them. However, depending on many factors, some of the filler (which, with hyaluronic acid fillers, is the precursor of collagen) is converted to collagen and is permanent. If you inject the same area on different occasions, you get more fill in the area and have to use less filler to achieve the same result. You don’t get enhancement in places you haven’t had filler. I will occasionally retreat an area, but, with the same amount I used the first time, treat a new area also.
