I am thinking about starting 0.25mg minoxidil with Spironolactone. Would it be okay to use 100-200mg Spironolactone and 0.25 minoxidil to treat my FPHL? I am also planning on adding in PRP after a few months. Do you think this is an effective way to maintain the hair I have? Topical rogaine was very irritating to my scalp therefore I would like to use low dose minoxidil instead.
Answer: Should I add in PRP to my hair routine?? Ask Dr. Ellen... Great question! PRP is great for thinning hair. PRP uses growth factors in your own blood to stimulate the scalp to restore hair growth, increase thickness of hair, and improve the strength of hair. Treatment works best in areas of hair that are thinning, compared to areas of complete hair loss. We recommend getting three treatments 4-6 weeks apart, and then maintenance therapy would be once or twice a year. This would work in conjunction with the routine you have detailed above. It would be in your best interest to go to an expert injector in your area, so they can get a full history and help you get on the right path to hair loss recovery. Good luck!In Good Health,Ellen Mahony, MD.

Answer: Understanding Hair loss and hair loss treatment options: hair transplant, prp and progesterone This needs an in-person evaluation. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options. There are great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Oral minoxidil and spironolactone? Englewood Cliffs New Jersey Oral minoxidil and spironolactone are an excellent combination to maintain and possibly regrow hair. The original doses in the studies (Sinclair) were .25 of oral minoxidil and 25 mg of spironolactone. In my opinion, when one goes above 25 mg of spironolactone the possibility of hypotension and other side effects increases. Keep in mind that one must protect against pregnancy because spironolactone can cause fetal birth defects. We have added PRP to the combination and have seen additional benefit.

Answer: Oral minoxidil and spironolactone Be sure to see a dermatologist. It is a reasonable plan but personally I would advise you start lower on spironolactone in case it makes you dizzy with the minoxidil. You can increase if things feel okay after 1-2 months. I would also not add PRP in a few months because you will have absolutely no clue as to what is helping and what is not. Give it a good solid 8-10 months before even thinking about PRP. Start minoxidil and spironolactone... increase slowly... figure out if it’s working and go from there. See a physician to guide you.

Answer: PRP as adjunctive management Yes, this sounds sensible, but you do need to see an expert regarding this. Minoxidil is an excellent idea, and spironolactone is my favoured anti- androgens, at 100- 200 mg you must NOT self medicate, this tablet can increase your potassium levels, so you must have regular blood tests. Remember, PRP is not a one off treatment, repeated sessions must be conducted. All the best, Dr Davin S. Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
