The delayed healing you experienced was related to poor blood supply which starts below in the deeper breast tissue and affects the skin of the nipple/areola as well.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, there is increased risk of healing complications if you have a history of wound healing issues. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.
