I recently had 21 veneers (11 top & 10 bottom) placed about two weeks ago, I feel like I didn’t quite get what I wanted. What I was looking for was that more “fake Hollywood” type smile. I am a little dissatisfied with the overall “bottom line” of my top teeth. Is it possible to have them shaved down slightly so they form a more perfect crisp line now that they have been fitted? To what degree can adjustments be made now that they are cemented in?
Answer: Yes! but careful now ;) Hi Pickleslady, You're rocking an amazing smile but I see what you mean about the length of the middle two teeth. Porcelain veneers can be shaved down however this does not change where the widest part of the tooth is (called height of contour). If the teeth are shaved down, there is a chance they will look quite short and squat relative to the teeth on either side. I would recommend returning to the dentist who placed the veneers to have a chat about your options; simply shaving the teeth down may do the trick, but it's important to have a back-up plan (i.e replacing the middle two so they fit more closely to your expectations) Hope that helps! Dr Rick

Answer: Veneers For what it's worth, I think your dentist did a great job! That being said, the can definitely be adjusted. The length is very easy to adjust, but keep in mind that once they are shortened, length cannot be added back without doing a new veneer. I always address things like length with the patient holding a mirror while I work so we can both see the progress and agree where to stop. Once adjusted, it may be difficult to get the veneer material perfectly smooth again, so you may have to deal with a little bit of roughness to your tongue.

Answer: Veneer Adjustments Yes your veneers can be adjusted. When we "adjust", remember it is usually a "reduction" and may not be reversible, so go slow over a few visits. Some materials are easier to polish after adjustments like the newer ceramics but the older "porcelain" is easier to adjust but may loose luster if it is in the visual zone (not bite or length).Lastly, work with your dentist in conveying what you want to adjust, so go into the visit with a plan. Tell them exactly what to shorten, sharpen, etc. You have a beautiful smile and remember the veneers simply complement the person!

Answer: Veneer adjustment So to answer this question is rather difficult. I understand what you mean by not being satisfied with the shape of them as they are to bulky in my opinion, but that being said you can try to shorten them slightly but then you run into the problem of having bulkier short teeth. Were the veneers tried in and shown to you before they were inserted? this is usually done to make sure problems like this dont arise. hope this helps Dr. Rami
