How long does your metabolic rate stay high after breast augmentation surgery?

Thank you for your question.  Your body's metabolic rate will stay high for several weeks after surgery as it expenses energy to heal.  You may see some weight gain as a result of the implants which will be permanent, but also some weight gain from swelling, which will also resolve as your breasts heal.  True weight gain is not that common after a breast augmentation.  

Thank you for your question.  It is very normal to gain weight on the scale after breast augmentation for a couple reasons.  One is that your implants do have a certain weight so it is not uncommon to add 1-3 lbs depending on the size of the implants.  Second, you will add a lot of water weight after surgery so don't be surprised if you had 5-10 lbs on the scale after surgery.  This later weight gain should subside with every week that passes until you are back to baseline.Your body will also be burning more calories as it is recovering from surgery and does require protein to heal.  As far as activity, I would recommend that you gradually increase your activity levels every week after surgery.  Here's a rough guide:0-2 weeks:  Walk around the house, outdoors, mall, etc at a very leisurely rateAfter 2 week:  Walk for 2 miles/day at 2mphAfter 3 weeks: Walk for 3 miles/day at 3mphAfter 4 weeks:  Walk 4 miles/day at 4mphAfter 5 weeks:  Walk/jog 5 miles/day at 5mphAfter 6 weeks:  Jog/run as much as you want.  Lift as much as you want (but listen to your body if it feels like too much, then slow down).
