Sex 4 days post breast augmentation. Am I in danger or at risk of hematoma?

It is advised to avoid any strenuous activity for 6 weeks after #breast #augmentation surgery.  You may, however do normal activities at any time if they cause no pain or discomfort.
Let your body tell you what you can or cannot do. Aerobic exercise will
raise your blood pressure, which could cause late bleeding and harm your
result. Once you begin more physical activity again, start gently and let your body tell you
what it can tolerate. Don’t rush!!

Hello, Thank you for your question. Sexual relations will not significantly increase the risk of rupture and should be enjoyed after three weeks. I'd recommend speaking with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to see what their own restrictions may be. All the best.  

A hematoma would manifest itself by a swelling and increasing pain. If you don't experience a big swelling and increased pain then you probably are fine. I normally recommend to my patients to avoid intercourse for at least three to four weeks because it could increase the chances of a hematoma. 

Thank you for your question and I am sorry that this has caused you to be worried.  Though it is not advisable to have relations this quickly after surgery, if there has not been any significant change to your breasts' appearance - rapidly increasing size, worsening pain, bruising - all is likely well.  

In general I tell patients to avoid sex, exercise, or strenuous activity for about a month to limit the likelihood of postoperative problems.  The main concern is if any changes in the breasts occur.  My patients know to call me immediately if they notice new postoperative pain, asymmetry, or swelling in the breasts.Best of luck,Keith BlechmanNew York, NY

Hello, I'd suggest speaking to your surgeon about physical restrictions including sexual intercourse, because they are best able to assess your wound healing and make recommendations.  I usually recommend my patients avoid firm direct pressure for 4-6 weeks, but there are ways to be sexually intimate without direct pressure to the chest.

The sex is already in the past and if you do not have any new pain or swelling you are probably fine.  We usually recommend no real physical activity for 10-14 days.  I would have your boyfriend wait for the established guidelines. You gain nothing and you could have a delayed hematoma if your blood pressure goes up, even temporarily.  Best wishes,

Assuming you notice no changes in the breasts, it is most likely that no harm has been done.  Take it easy until you have clearance from your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.
