Can you use emsculpt on hamstrings?

Emsculpt has recently been FDA approved for the hamstrings among other areas. There will be a specific hand piece for this body part which will be available in the USA soon, but not yet. Stay tuned! 

Hi formerdancer,Yes, Emsculpt may be used on the hamstring leg muscles.  There are new EmSculpt paddles for the legs and arms that will be available to the public very soon.  We have been treating our patients with the current abdominal paddles and getting excellent results. I am not aware of any physical therapists currently using EmSculpt though it makes sense to use this technology on people who are unable to workout due to various reasons.  Good luck and be well.Dr. P

There is no EMsculpt protocol for hamstrings currently. That would be off-label use of it. This could most likely be done, however. Please contact a qualified provider or a board-certified physician with extensive experience in these procedures.

Yes, yes, yes! The recently released paddles are cleared for extremity use. We have been effectively usine EMsculpt for rehabbing post surgical knees and getting excellent results. The muscle that has atrophied due to non movement post surgically responds well and, unlike doing leg extensions in the gym, is not painful. We have also gotten excellent results after lower back surgery for core stremgthening. Please consider EMsculpt for post-surgical rehab.

Thanks for your question. The answer is yes, although really we should be using the newest handpieces set up specifically for arms/thighs. It's on the way! You can use the current paddles that are out, but it would be considered, "off-label," and you'd have to talk to your surgeon about that. Best wishes

Using Emsculpt to strengthen hamstrings is off-label, but yes, you can use the original large paddles to do that. If you've had an ACL repair, you will need to use lower power and ease it up to make sure that the tension on the tendons do not cause you pain. The other challenge is that the device causes contraction of the muscle, so positioning in such a way that does not result in a wild kick is challenging. My advice would be to start sitting with legs straight and the paddle under the leg. BTL has made new curved paddles that are about to be available that are smaller and will likely be a better shape and size for the back of the leg.
