How long can it take to completely heal from lower lid blepharoplasty?

In general, we do not take after photos earlier than 6 months after an lower eyelid lift. Therefore, some mild fluctuations in swelling (such as more puffiness in the morning etc.) can still be experienced. The incisions should be almost there 5 months into the recovery with minimal healing to be left.

 Thank you for the question. Often the swelling following blepharoplasty resolveds by about six months. It would not be unusual for it to take an extra month or so. The scar usually takes a full year to completely heal. Make sure to wear sunglasses to avoid pigmentation of the incision site. I'm glad you sound mostly happy at this point. Everyone heals differently, and so some patients may have swelling longer than others. It is difficult to predict.

Of the many cosmetic procedures done on the face, lower lid surgery probably takes the longest to get back to normal.  Swelling for 5 months is certainly not unheard of, but when you follow up with your surgeon he/she may want to go through your medical history again to rule out other reasons for swelling of the eyelids.  Certain thyroid problems, rosacea, other sources of inflammation may all cause eyelid swelling.  There may be a need to consider a trial of steroids as well.  I would encourage you to communicate your concerns to your surgeon and hopefully this will resolve soon.
