Question

I'm only 20 years old but appear to have "jowels" on my jawline. I know it's probably just my bone structure because I've had them for as long as I can remember, but would fillers help correct the indent? Thanks!! :)

I think you need an in person evaluation.  This area is the "pre jowl" and sometimes forms a crease but it may be natural for you.  Also, you appear to have large masseters that may need to be treated and if they are, may give you a more defined, less shadowed apperance.  Fillers can easily treat this area if it is determined you have volume loss and need it.  I suggest seeing someone who is young with a conservative aesthetic eye.  You do not want to be overdone or permanently changed at such a young age.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Allisonxo,The area you are talking about is the pre-jowl sulcus.  This area can be significantly improved with fillers or fat grafting to the area.  I put the filler deep on the bone structure and it can last longer when placed deeper.  Good luck.

You do not have jowls. this is the shape of your face. The curve that you are focusing on can be corrected with fillers but be aware of what that would look like in the end. Filling this might make you feel like you have a rounder face and you might not like it. Get a photo and try to photoshop it to make the chin to jawline a continuos line. See if you want that shape or not. I think that your natural curves are just fine.

Hi Allisonxo,We work with many young patients with similar concerns in our practice.  What's bothering you is not truly "jowls", but rather a prominent pre-jowl sulcus and possibly a small amount of asymmetric fat in the left jowl area.  You are too young to have true jowling from facial laxity.  Fillers are very safe and can help soften up the left marionette region and the pre-jowl sulcus to some degree.  You might also be a good candidate for microscultiping  with a simply scar-less office procedure to permanently reduce the  asymmetric fat deposit on the left side to create more symmetry of your jawline and jowls.

but it's important to remember you look very good and a filler might enhance the way you look at yourself but others - casual friends and acquaintances - might not even notice...whether you want the treatment is a personal decision...but if the question is do you need the treatment, the answer is no, not really...and remember every treatment comes with some baggage that you might not like

Fillers can be used to camouflage the appearance of jowls. Having said that, but it appears that your asymmetrical chin and poor definition of the jawline may be the problem. More pictures, including your profile, would her helpful. In that case  a chin-pre-jowl implant would provide a permanent solution.
