Over the past few days my areolas seem to have gotten much smaller, lighter and feel softer then usual. Could this be normal or should I have reason for concern? I had a recent ultrasound on my breast which came back normal but there was still no clear reason as to why this is all of a sudden happening. Could it be because it is that time of fhe month? My primary care doctor ordered ultrasound just to give me a piece of mind after finding no sign of any abnormalities, but I still feel uneasy.

Dear Cort_dizzle,
it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Hi domafonzo
The areola is the pink circular base upon which the nipple sits. The size of the areola can be highly variable but averages about 4 cm in diameter in a young woman and typically will increase in size with time, age, pregnancies, and weight gain. For more information about this...
Areolas come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. If you’re concerned with the appearance of your areolas, make an appointment with your PCP or a board certified PS for an in-office evaluation. They can answer any questions that you have and may help you feel more at ease.
