After Gastric Bypass: I had Breast Augmentation one week ago....ugly breast...help, should I have had a lift? (photo)

Patients that have undergone massive weight loss after gastric bypass often have very difficult breasts to correct. There is almost always a loss of volume requiring a breast implant and almost always a significant excess of skin requiring a breast lift (mastopexy). The breast lift and augmentation after massive weight loss is one of the more difficult surgeries that we perform. Even though there is limited information with your photo, you almost certainly will need a breast lift in order to achieve the best possible appearance of your breasts. At this point, I would suggest waiting for about 3 months before proceeding with the lift and allowing the implants to settle as much as they can.

Thank you for your picture although it's not the best angle. It appears that the breast implants will not drop take up that excess skin. Is often times with massive weight loss patients that only place needed but a mastopexy/breast lift needed.

Based on your early post op photos and history, I'd give the implants 3 months to settle and be prepared to have a lift. Best of luck to you. 

Thank you for sharing. There is only limited information here but on superficial inspection you appear to need a lift. Confirm with your board certified plastic surgeon. Raise your concerns with him/her.  In my practice, I wait until gastric bypass patients are at a stable weight and assess the needs and goals of the patient. In most of my patients, a lift of some kind is recommended. Augmentation may also be done in many candidates. Best wishes and good luck.

 Dear carry123, I am sorry about the distress your augmentation is causing you. From your photo, you will need a lift. You have the excess skin and breast tissue hanging over the implant. This needs to be lifted and moved on top of the implant. I doubt the implant will settle enough to give you the look you desire. Follow up closely with your surgeon or seek a second consultation with another experienced board certified surgeon in your area. Good luck. #DrGervais.

Augmentation mastopexy (breast lift and implants) is one of the more difficult procedures in plastic surgery.  Patients ultimately do very well if this procedure is "staged" meaning the augmentaiton is done at one surgery and the lift at another.  Sounds like your surgeon realized that you may well require a combined procedure.  At this point, let yourself heal from the implant surgery and after a breast lift I bet that you will have an excelllent result.  

It looks like in the photo that you might have needed a lift. At this point you have to let the implants settle. When it does, you can always consider a lift.
