Why would a PS prescribe long term use of rifampin and Bactrim?

I was prescribed rifampin and Bactrim for a suspected mrsa infection after breast augmentation. Culture results showed no mrsa but pseudomonas instead-yet I was kept on these two drugs for close to 3 months. Would there be a reason for this?

Thanks for your question! You really need to discuss this with your particular surgeon. Every surgery center is different so it really depends on a number of factors. You will absolutely need cardiac clearance but beyond that, I'm unsure if you will need a hospital visit or not. Good luck!
