hi.. i had my last menses march13.. had my brazilian ipl session april8 (not knowing i am pregnant).. what could be a possible effect of the ipl to my baby? pls help iam on my 11th week and iam very anxious.. my obgyne says will just wqit and see which makes me more scared...

Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses light energy to affect the superficial layers of skin. There is no evidence this energy passes into deeper skin, let alone the structures beneath it. Therefore there should be no adverse events strictly from this procedure during pregnancy. Although most people recommend deferring any cosmetic treatments once someone is known to be pregnant.

gemma-31 you can relax - there is no reasonable way the IPL can affect anything internally.  The IPL light only goes as deep as the root of the hair and no deeper.  Congratulations on your pregnancy.

IPL is a very superficial treatment. There isn't a way it can penetrate into your organs and affect your fetus. You are fine and there's nothing to worry about. We don't recommend people receive treatments while pregnant simply because everything that's not 100% necessary should be avoided while pregnant - it's just best. But IPL cannot go into the womb and affect the fetus.
