Female, 46 yo, slender with thin skin. I have always had excess skin in the neck area which really ages me because I take very good care of my face, and I’m finally going to get a neck lift. I had a consultation with one of the top doctors in the city who said he would put incisions behind my ear by the hairline as well as in front of my ear by the hairline. He would not put an incision under my chin as I have read is common. Maybe bc I have a lot of excess skin?
Answer: Neck Skin Sagging / Platysmaplasty -- neck lift/Facelift, Lasers, Microneedling RF, Fillers, Renuvion, ThermiRF, FaceTite It's difficult to say without the benefit a formal evaluation. With significant neck sagging you would need a neck lift / facelift with muscle tightening (platysmaplasty). At the same time, lasers treatments (Fraxel, CO2, Erbium, Halo) or microneedling RF (Fractora, Intensif, Morpheus, PiXel8) can be performed to improve crepey skin or wrinkles. You need a formal consultation, as the neck can be treated with a combination approach: - Microneedling and laser treatments for texture - Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, or Jeuveau to help the Platysmal bands - Intensif, PiXel8, Morpheus or Fractora RF microneedling for crepey skin and lifting - Injectable fillers like Belotero, Restylane Silk, and/or Juvederm Volbella to improve lines and folds - Renuvion, ThermiRF, and/or InMode FaceTite for internal tightening - Ultherapy and Thermage for external tightening - regular Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra, or InMode Forma treatments with facials to maintain tightness - PDO NovaThreads or Silhouette InstaLift cone threads for lifting and long-term collagen production See an expert for a full evaluation and treatment plan based on your individual situation and goals.

Answer: Neck lift In many patients to achieve the best contoured neck, incision in front of the ear help lift the SMAS for jawline definition. Incisions under the chin are useful for tightening platysmal bands, at times the medial inner bands can be addressed by lateral pull on the platysma.

Answer: Neck lift Thank you for your question. The reason to make an incision both in front and behind your ear, would be to more naturally redrape the tissue. Many surgeons will use that approach if there is enough excess skin that needs to be excised. I recommend consultation with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon to discuss further. Best of luck!

Answer: Neck lift It is very difficult to comment on your condition considering how minimal information these photos provide. You may consider starting with Botox to address muscle bands? It is impossible to see lower face and jaw and say whether skin laxity needs to be addressed. Anterior neck lift with incision underneath the chin may be an option? Second opinion consultation is recommended. Good luck.

Answer: Not a neck lift Hello! We can't see your full face in the photo. However, you have platysmal bands (the vertical neck folds you are seeing). Your doctor is planning to do a full facelift to lift the skin up and reduce those. It is possible that pulling only behind the ear could do it, but not certain. We'd want to see your full face to decide. Additionally, an incision in front under the chin may be helpful to place the edges of the muscle (those bands you see) together, but it is not always needed. You don't have a heavy face or neck (not a lot of fat), so that incision isn't always critical. In my office we do neck lifts under the chin, behind the ear, or both. However, it may be that a full face lift (with the incisions your doctor mentioned) will be much better for you.
