Which Board Certification is best for a Revision Rhinoplasty specialist?

Question

Which board would best qualify a revision rhinoplasty surgeon for a 2nd revision from an original revision 20 years ago? I'm told my case would be complicated. I have nostril margin asymmetry, deviated septum, pinching in tip, over rotation, thin skin, crooked columella asymmetrical tip. I've seen:American Board of Plastic Surgery, Board of Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, Head and neck (ont.),ENT's, maybe others! Should I look for someone double or triple certified?

Hello and thank you for your question. You may find the answer to this question highly variable based on the background of whoever is answering it. The reality is that both Plastic Surgeons and ENT surgeons can perform very nice Rhinoplasties in the Revision setting. You should really evaluate the surgeon’s individual overall body of work in their online before and after gallery. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

For the most part, revision rhinoplasties are done by people who are certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).  That's statistically your best best.  There are, however, some excellent surgeons for rhinoplasty who are with the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgery).  Almost every AAFPRS surgeon, like me, is also board certified in ENT and Head and Neck surgery so fixing your breathing is always part of fixing the nose.
