2 weeks post-op: I still have some swelling in near vagina/abdomen, is this normal? (photo)

I'm exactly two weeks today, I have had swelling near my vaginal and abdominal area since two two of the surgery, it feels as if there is liquid just sitting in that area, if I need to see a doctor would I need to contact a surgeon near me ? Or should I wait and see if this goes down ?

Thank you for your inquiry and picture. As you may already know, the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure involves fat elimination through liposuction from several areas of the body such as the hips, abdomen, back and thighs. Your immune system responds to the areas which were treated by bruising and swelling with lymphatic fluid. This is normal and is to be expected for the first six weeks following a BBL surgery.

Wearing compression garments is absolutely necessary in aiding the healing process. These garments help lower the risk of fluid buildup and reduce swelling. Please follow the instructions your doctor gave you for post-operative care and ideal garments to wear. If you are concerned, you should always ask your plastic surgeon if you are healing normally.

Thank you for the question and the photo.  It is normal to have swelling 2 weeks after surgery.  At my office we explain to the patients that you will get an idea of what the final result will look like at 6 weeks but you can have some swelling up to 6 months.  If you have any concerns please discuss them with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Swelling is normal after surgery. At two weeks this is common. It can take several months for the swelling to subside.
