How much swelling is normal after Restylane injections under the eyes/upper cheeks? (photos)

Question

I had restylane injections under my eyes today and saw minimal bruising/swelling until around 6 hours later when I started to see a gradual increase in swelling. Now I have significant swelling and some tenderness, as shown in the photos. Is this normal?

Thank you for your question. Your still swollen after your filler injection and the swelling could last for another 1-2 weeks. You never mentioned how much filler was injected but the more injected will lead to more immediate swelling and discomfort.   All of my patients apply an cold gel pack for several hours after their injection to help with the swelling.  Discuss your concerns with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Swelling after filler is normal as is mild tenderness.  however, if you are in pain or the area is changing colors or hurting, I would return to your injector for further recommendations.

Restylane silk is a great new product indicated for the perioral rhytides and lip area only but swelling in this area should be expected because restylane is so hydrophilic. It is post op edema and will resolve over  few days typically. Not indicated for the nasolablial folds. Would recommend you discuss your case with your board certified dermatologist.Restylane silk is not indicated for any area other than the lip and perioral rhytides.

Restylane is very hydrophilic.  For the first several days, dramatic swelling is not uncommon. Some providers recommend icing, but ultimately it's a normal reaction that should resolve within a short period of time.
