About 3 weeks ago I had keyhole surgery to remove my breast tissue by gynecomastia surgical method (incision under half the areola). I notice some bumps on my chest particularly under the nipples / bottom part of my chest. The surgeon told me it is just swelling and will go away. Is this normal for this procedure? I can also feel some hard stuff around the raised area which my surgeon says is scar tissue. I'm concerned there may be fat left in there. Has anyone else had this? Does it go away?
Answer: FTM top surgery hello schmutzcityusa Bruising and swelling are normal and usually increase slightly after the removal of any tape or foam. The bruising will decrease over 3-4 weeks, but may last as long as 6 weeks. The majority of the swelling will be gone within the first 3-4 weeks. However it may take 6-9 weeks to disappear completely. The compression garment helps reduce the swelling, and the longer it is worn, the more quickly you will heal. #incision #areola

Answer: Fat pockets after surgery Thanks for the question. 3 weeks is too soon to make any final judgements as there is residual swelling, scarring and remodeling of the tissue. You need to give it a good 3 months and sometimes longer. Your surgeon should be able to then instruct you on whether a little touch up might be needed in terms of some liposuction. Also, the nipples appear inverted. This may have been what you had before surgery, or it may be from the surgery and scarring. Typically when that happens the nipple will pop back out and if they don't and bother you, there is a small procedure than can be done to resolve that. Good Luck"The above answer has been given without seeing this patient and cannot be substituted for actual in-person examination and medical advice; it is only opinion. Answer: Swelling post op Hi, thanks for your question and photos. It is common to have swelling at this stage of your recovery and can take upto 3 months to settle. At this stage, scar will be forming and will feel firm- it will start to soften and remodel from 8 weeks post surgery. Your nipples look retracted, and you may have some early tethering at this point to the chest wall. This will make the swelling look worse as the tethered nipple can look like the button on an chesterfield couch. I'd recommend scar massage and some time to let your swelling settle.

Answer: FTM TOP Surgery Recovery Hi schmutzcityusa,Thanks for the post and photos. At 3 weeks you are still very early in the recovery period and it is difficult to say whether the pockets below the nipples are swelling, scar tissue formation, or residual tissue. Time will sort it out as swelling usually goes away after a few months but tissue doesn't. Scar tissue can form at this time but it is unusual this early. If there is residual tissue I would wait until about 6 months to make any decisions on treatment.Sincerely,Dr. Dadvand

Answer: Postop swelling vs remaining fat At 3 weeks postop you still have swollen tissues which typically feel more firm than completely healed tissues. This tissue will soften and shrink over the next couple of months. However if after three months there is still a bump, your surgeon can remove it with a small liposuction in the office.
