Firmness around incision lines under breast is much more firm at 5 weeks. Surgeon says it's scar tissue. Opinions? (photos)

At 5 weeks, your scarring normally. There are a couple of areas that are trying to heal but should progress normally. I agree with your surgeon that massage. To prevent thickening of scars over the first 3 months (when scars are most active), I use silicone sheets applied daily.Hope this helps.

You are still very early in your stages of healing.  Scars take months to fully settle.  It is very normal to experience scar tissue at this point. Yes, massage can help soften them.  They will soften and fade more as time goes on.  There are also treatment options and products to help with the scars and you can discuss this with your surgeon.  All the best.

In the normal phases of healing, immature scar is laid down by your body then replaced slowly by permanent scar.  These firm areas will likely soften with time.  In my experience, 3-6 months is a good time to reevaluate for scar revision.  

Thank you for your questions and photographs. Certain degree of hardening of the scars is entirely normal for several weeks after surgery. As time goes by, the scars should start to soften and fade. Different surgeons advise different routines depending on their personal experience and the surgical technique used. Scar tissue is a common occurrence after surgery and generally will soften with time.  If you don't notice the scar softening, or if you feel that they seem to be getting thicker or more firm with time I would discuss treatment options with your surgeon as there are things that can be done to soften and minimize the appearance of scar tissue.

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  I see your areas of concern and do think this is a result of scarring taking place.  This should improve spontaneously with time but if you see any additional worsening, check with your surgeon for concerns of hypertrophic scar formation.  Hope this helps.

Hello! Thank you for your question and for providing pictures. The healing looks normal for 5 weeks after surgery. It's normal to feel firm tissue as the scar gains strength which usually occurs progressively towards week 8, so after that the scar matures and the healing process continues up to one year, so don't worry, it is still very early and the tissue will soften. Also the scar will be less noticeable and the redness will disappear. Discuss with your plastic surgeon available treatments for scar. I recommend you to start massaging the scar 10 to 15 minutes 3 times a day so it will soften faster.

Dear Calm9577, Thank you for your question and congratulations on your surgery. I tell all of my patients that the it is normal for the incisions to be raised, red, and feel hard for several months. The final result of your operation cannot be judged until at least 6-12 months following surgery. However, if you are still having concerns I suggest following up with your Board Certified Operating Surgeon. Best of luck to you.
