Can finasteride cause your hair to become oily and covered with dandruff?

I began taking finasteride on October 17, 2017. Since I have been on the pill, my hair has been oily and I get a lot of dandruff in my hair (seborrheic dermatitis). I never suffered from any of these before I was on the pill. Could the drug be the problem?

In my experience, patients do not experience more dandruff from propecia.  Did you start any new topicals or switch shampoos?  These are more likely culprit. I would visit a hair expert or a derm if there is not a hair expert local to you to examine your scalp. Best of luck!

Finasteride will help slow down your hair loss. It will not cause more dandruff of for it to become oily.

Finasteride does not cause dandruff and should not make your hair more oily. You might want to see a dermatologist
