6 days po CO2 laser treatment to my face and today I am very swollen in my eyes, forehead, and cheeks. Is this normal? (Photos)

My skin feels like rubber with a very uneven texture of ridges not to mention the strange dots on my forehead. I’m using ibuprofen and Benadryl for the swelling but it has not helped at all. Today is, by far, the worst day yet. Is this normal or should I be concerned about infection? Are the dots around my chin an allergic reaction to the aquaphor, or possibly a herpes outbreak? Are the streaks, and ribbed texture normal? Also, any suggestions for a substitute for aquaphor? Thank you!

I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care recommendations. We have a specific protocol. I recommend skin care with vitamin c, b5 hydrator, silicone based scar gels with growth factors and enzymatic washes with papaya enzyme to give improvement. PDT therapy can calm inflammation. Sun protection is essential. Lasers like Co2 work best in combination with other treatments in order to improve the skin's texture and collagen. After Co2, I recommend adding fraxel lasers, microneedling/prp and radiofrequency treatments. Best, Dr. Emer

After a laser procedure, the skin requires the utmost of TLC. The superficial aspect of the skin was taken away, weakening the barrier for infection. Medications are often given to keep away infection and local care is taken to protect the skin. You may wish to call your doctor's office and be seen by the surgeon for a followup examination.
