Is eyelid surgery possible with strabismus?

Hello, i have a strabismus in my right eye (turns inwards) that is fully corrected when i wear my glasses as it only happens when i strain my eyes. Would it be possible for me to have lower eyelid surgery?

Strabismus (eye misalignment) does not automatically prevent someone from having eyelid surgery, but it does require careful evaluation. Eyelid procedures primarily address the skin, muscle, and fat around the eyes, while strabismus involves the muscles that control eye movement. Because these are different anatomical structures, many patients with well-controlled strabismus can still be candidates for eyelid surgery.

However, it is important to proceed cautiously. Swelling after surgery can temporarily affect eye comfort and coordination, and patients with pre-existing eye muscle conditions may be more sensitive during the healing period.

If your strabismus is fully corrected with glasses and only occurs when your eyes are strained, that is generally reassuring. Even so, your plastic surgeon may recommend coordination with your ophthalmologist to ensure your eye alignment is stable before proceeding.

A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon experienced in eyelid procedures is the best way to determine whether lower eyelid surgery is safe and appropriate for you.
