I have added the photos below of the above said keloid scar on my neck. I know that it is a small scar but a scar is a scar. Right? Sir, honestly speaking, I am loosing my self-confidence and becoming depressed day by day.I am losing my concentration on my studies. After all, it is looking very prominent and a bit ugly from outside and I am tired of people asking me about that. Please help me doctor!

Answer: Neck Scar Hi thank you for your question. I understand some scars can be unsightly, however they can be treated. It appears the scar on your neck looks to be a hypertrophic scar (excessive scarring within the boundaries of the wound). Keloid scars differ in which the scar grows excessively beyond the boundaries of the wound. In your case, you can try nonsurgical options such as silicone sheeting or even steroid injections into the scar. Other option is to have the scar completely excised and re-close the wound with good technique to minimize scar formation. If you are prone to hypertrophic scars or keloids, then excising the scar and then receiving radiation therapy to that area has a high success rate. It is very difficult to "permanently" delete a scar. I recommend having a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck.
