Is subcision for my nasolabial folds safe and is it worth it? Will it improve asymmetry? (photo)

Question

I have deep nasolabial folds. Furthermore, they are asymmetric so that my right cheek seems lower than the left. I have been offered a subcision for improving them. Is this generally safe, and can it be done so that asymmetry of the face is improved? How’s the recovery from this? I have hotten some information from my doctor but would love to hear second opinions.

Thank you for your photo. Subcision of the nasolabial folds may work however it is less effective alone than when combined with filler. Asymmetry of the face is normal in everyone and can be due to a variety of factors. You may have improvement in your symmetry. You can expect some bruising and swelling after the procedure. Arnica can help speed up the healing process and minimize bruising. Hope his helps!

Based on the single photograph, I would suggest that you start with fillers to your cheeks to treat volume loss. This can provide a lift and tends to improve the nasolabial folds in a more natural way. Also be aware that the angular artery runs in close proximity to the nasolabial fold making subcision in this area potentially more risky.Regards,Dr. Ort
