Do I need a second session of Sculptra?

Question

I had one vial of sculptra spread throughout my face 6 weeks ago. I see the results and it looks great! I don't require anymore volume, but I don't want the volume to go away. Do I need to have a second session of sculptra for the results to last?

Hello, As the other panel members suggested, if you are satisfied with the one vial from one treatment, then it's difficult to suggest you need another session.  However, if you are concerned about the long-term benefits and investment, it becomes more challenging to speak to expected duration if you are not having more than 1 treatment.  The two year plus duration is based upon a series of treatments.  You may want to allow more time, being that it has only been six weeks, to determine if a second session in the next couple of months will benefit you to "top it off", so to speak to enjoy a long, appreciable outcome.

This will depend on the results you want. I often start with 1 vial and then wait 6 weeks to add another, if necessary. Then if more is needed we space the treatments to every 8-12 weeks.Sculptra is a great product for improving facial volume and collagen building, but for best results, I recommend using it in a combination depending on desired results. I combine Sculptra with other fillers, lasers, toxins and skin care to give immediate results. Thanks for the question.  While most of us inject sculptra over several sessions, if you are happy with a single session, there is no need to do more.  Your face is not the same as my last patient's, or my next patient's.  Wait until you feel like you need more and then see your injector, who sounds like they did a good job!

I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your results!  Sculptra is an excellent product for gradually adding natural, subtle volume to the face.  Typically, Sculptra requires a series of at least 2-3 treatments, typically spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.  If you're happy with your results after one treatment, you don't necessarily need to have a second treatment.  
Typically, the results from Sculptra last up to 2 years.  However, even after Sculptra, our faces continue to loose a little bit of volume every year, as part of the natural aging process.  Therefore, I typically recommend maintenance treatments with Sculptra every 6-12 months.  I would recommend that you see your provider in follow-up to discuss your long-term goals, and come up with a treatment plan to maintain your results.

It's great if you are seeing a desired effect with only one vial of Sculptra just 6 weeks after injection. This is unusual as most patients require multiple sessions.  I would recommend returning to your injector for follow-up to discuss your desired outcome along with his or her recommendation for long-term correction. The best cosmetic results are those where you are happy and satisfied!

Sculptra is one of my favorite products due to its ability to stimulate collagen and its subtle gradual effects. 1 vial of Sculptra is usually not enough, however you do not want to overcorrect or over volumize. I would follow up with your injecting physician for a professional re-evaluation. If the desired results are already achieved, he or she will likely ask you to hold off on more injections and to follow up again in 6-12 months.

I am surprised to hear you achieved the desired volume with only one vial as it almost always takes several treatments. Sculptra, like all fillers, requires maintenance to keep your desired look consistent, however I would not recommend adding more if you are currently at your desired volume and only had the vial 6 weeks ago as you want to avoid looking puffy. I think it would be best if you returned to your injector and discussed this with them to determine when would be a good time to follow up for evaluation on adding additional Sculptra.
