Sex/oral sex/swallowing after BA?

Thank you for your question. In order to allow the breasts to settle and heal properly we ask our patients not to jeopardize the results and avoid sex. As long as you are adhering to your post op instructions, you should be fine. Best,

Sex on any occasion is a wonderful thing, BUT, any vigorous physical activity after any operation, including breast augmentation, should be cautioned for at least 4 to 5 days.  Manipulation of the breasts should be reduced to at least 2 weeks.  However, oral sex is usually not as physically demanding, so if you feel comfortable, go for it!  Also, there is no evidence that swallowing after oral sex has any increase incidence of infection.

The type of sexual activity you are referring to should not be a problem.  Generally speaking, best  to limit strenuous activity for at least 2 weeks after breast   augmentation surgery, assuming you are doing well and there have been no complications.  Care should be taken during the first one to two weeks after surgery not to allow for elevation of heart rate, blood pressure, and/or direct trauma/contact to the chest wall.

Most plastic surgeons generally agree with how long to delay sexual activities. In my practice, I tell my patient to wait 4- 6 weeks before engaging in sexual activities as it may still be a bit uncomfortable to do so prior to this time. You should however, ask your plastic surgeon about his or her recommendations. Oral sex after 2 weeks should not be problematic as long as there is no discomfort.Best wishes,Dr. Ravi Somayazula
