Can you take Xanax with Percocet? I'm worried about anxiety after surg

It's a good question. I do find that about one in 20 breast augmentation patients does benefit from adding a benzodiazepine (Xanax or Valium) to the pain medicine that they are taking. Can help with anxiety and help improve muscle spasms. Overall, I find that about 50% of my patients will only take ibuprofen. Speak with your surgeon about their specific comfort with combining Xanax and Percocet after your surgery.

Xanax and Percocet can be taken together but the combination could also be dangerous. These medicines should be mixed only with the approval of your surgeon.

It is best to discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon before your procedure. Doctors have their own guidelines that they follow and also your doctor knows all of the details about your procedure and other medications.  Speaking to your doctor directly can help manage pain and anxiety properly before, during and after surgery.

Your plastic surgeon will be your resource when it comes to specific prescriptions. In my practice, I do use a benzodiazepine as well as a narcotic to help with pain management and muscle spasm patients may experience after breast augmentation surgery. Xanax is in a category of medications called "benzodiazepines," and this includes other calming and tranquilizing medications like Valium, Librium, Ativan, and Versed.  They are generally safe when combined judiciously with narcotics, like Percocet, which are primarily for pain relief only and won't address anxiety as well.  I actually use Valium for my own patients in addition to Percocet because Valium, in addition to calming people and treating anxiety, is also an excellent muscle relaxer, and sometimes the pain after breast augmentation is caused by muscle spasms as well.  As long as you follow your doctor's instructions and don't overdo it on the combination of medications you should be safe.  Good luck.
