Bellafill for upper lip lines or skin resurfacing? (Photo)

Question

I’m wanting to do something that’s going to last a good while. Not just a filler I’m going to have to keep coming back every 3-12 months or so. I’ve heard great things about Bellafill and I’m interested in a product that’s going to last years instead of months. Please see picture

If you try to fill in all of the lines of the upper lip with temporary filler, then you will look as if your white or cutaneous upper lip looks puffy aka "Homer Simpson". If you elect to do filler, I would use juvederm or restylane brands of filler since they are easier to put into the lines themselves. In addition, I would not recommend belafill in that area due to the risk of lumpiness and it is difficult to get into smaller lines. If you wanted to improve the texture of your upper lip and also improve or remove most of the wrinkles, I would recommend a laser resurfacing as that treatment is the best for improving wrinkles around the lip and also improve the cobblestoning or texture of your upper lip.

BellaFill is a great filler for structural support, acne scars and facial contouring but, at the same time, Bellafill is not really for fine lines. I would not recommend Bellafill for upper lip lines.  Those lines are very superficial and Bellafill is used primarily in a deeper layer.  Laser skin resurfacing can help improve upper lip lines in some people.  Between the two procedures, I would say that laser resurfacing would be better than Bellafill to improve upper lip lines.

Fillers such as Restylane Silk, Belotero, or Juvederm can work well to treat lines around the mouth, but the best first option is laser resurfacing or deep peels to induce collagen production. Superficial radiofrequency devices and microneedling can help as well and are less invasive. I suggest going to an experienced cosmetic dermatologist with expertise in lasers and fillers. I find Bellafill is ideal for the lines above the upper lip.  Typically I use a cannula to inject it in this area.  I find it stimulates collagen and smooths out the entire area.  It cannot be used inside the lip just around the lips.
