Hello and thanks for your question,Ideally, it would be best to do both procedures at the same time.In our office we do septorhinoplasty very commonly together. This allows using the deviated portion of the septum as a graft to improve both function and aesthetics of the nose. Also this allows you to have one surgery, one Anesthesia, and one recovery. Please consider going in for a personalized and individualized consultation to discuss all options.Kind regards,Dr Sajjadian
Thank you for the question. These operations are intimately related and should be done together in every possible case. There are interactions between the septum and nasal contour, plus graft material from the septum is an essential part of most rhinoplasty operations. Best of luck moving forward!
It's not a good idea to have a septoplasty first and then undergo a rhinoplasty for multiple reasons. Both procedures can be performed by an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon, so that there is one anesthesia with one recovery period. Additionally, the cartilage from a septoplasty may be required if cartilage grafting techniques are needed for the rhinoplasty. If the cartilage from the nose has been removed with a septoplasty from the first surgeon, ear cartilage or rib cartilage may be required to be harvested for grafting purposes. Rhinoplasty is already a difficult procedure, don't make any harder by having a septoplasty performed by another surgeon. For more information about the differences between the 2 procedures, please see the video below
They should be done together. One surgery, one recovery, one anesthesia. In my experience, half of my rhinoplasty cases get some type of septal cartilage graft. I wold hate to lose cartilage or have it damaged.
Dear mking91, A septorhinoplasty is a combined procedure of septoplasty and rhinoplasty. The "septo" portion addresses the functional aspects and the "rhinoplasty" portion addressing the aesthetic aspects. You do not want to separate these procedures and do a septoplasty first EVER! I always address the septum in any patients that have nasal surgery as an integral part of all rhinoplasty procedures so that each nose is aesthetically pleasing and functional. Seek consultation with surgeons skilled in septorhinoplasty so that you have one procedure, one fee, one surgeon, one excellent result. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
Dear Mitch1, I have performed many septoplasty and septorhinoplasty procedures on patients with the same career of boxing and it does propose problems when you are still in the middle of your career. There are several questions which need to be addressed and would be answered during consultation...
