I have problems to breath thru my nose because of boxing, does it make sense to get my nosal bone surgically removed?

Hello, I have this problem for 2 years now. Last year I got surgery and my nose was set straight and after I could breath much better. But as soon as I started sparring again after a 2 month break the same problem ocurred again. So I can't breath properly thru my nose and I think it affects my performance during fights neither is it very pleasant in my daily life. What can I do that this problem goes away permanently? A rhinoplasty procedure can straighten  a crooked and broken nose, but it is probably best to wait until your boxing career is over. There are many issues inside the nose that can create breathing problems, such as a deviated septum, valve collapse, vestibular stenosis, and turbinate hypertrophy. Each one of these is treated differently with either medications or surgery depending upon the issue.

Dear Mitch1, I have performed many septoplasty and septorhinoplasty procedures on patients with the same career of boxing and it does propose problems when you are still in the middle of your career. There are several questions which need to be addressed and would be answered during consultation with an examination, history and physical. For instance when you started sparring again were you hit in the nose again or was your nose protected and you were having difficulty breathing with your mouthpiece in while exerting yourself physically?  There are multiple issues that can cause difficulty breathing and a proper diagnosis would need to be made in order to give you your best options. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
