I had lipo on my arms and back 2 years ago and it left me with disasterous looking arms. I regularly did my massages post-op am they got a little better but they still look extremely uneven and bumpy. The massages were a level of excrutiating pai that I'll never forget but the scar tissue was so damaged. I plan on getting a BBl this winter and am wondering if I should have the new doctor re-lipo my arms? Or will that make them worse? Should I do a separate procedure focused on my arms only?
Answer: Liposuction Although an examination is needed to be certain and your photos are very limited, I think you should avoid liposuction on your arms. Small precise fat transfers could be helpful for indentations, or even Sculptra injections. Go to someone who does a lot of fat transfers.

Answer: Liposuction results Dear Josie99276, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: Liposuction risks Dear Josie99276, One of the known risks of liposuction is the development of contour irregularities. Especially in the face of trying to avoid the scars of a lifting procedure, which I would surmise is the case here, judging from your fairly extensive stretch marks. It is unknown whether your surgeon used the SAFE technique of liposuction, which is less likely to create deformities. Speak to your new surgeon about how to proceed from here and how to stage things. The FE part of SAFE applied to your arms may be able to give you some improvement. Good luck!

Answer: Time to find a new plastic surgeon Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe. Simply being a board-certified plastic surgeon with overall good reputation is clearly not sufficient. Far too many plastic surgeons lack competence in this procedure. Liposuction results are permanent and irreversible. It’s very difficult to correct poorly done Liposuction. Personally I do not believe massages indicated or makes any difference in final outcomes and I personally do not recommend postoperative massage. To find a talented provider I suggest to patient’s first schedule only in person consultations and attempt to stay local whenever possible. Schedule as many consultations as you need to find the most talented and experience provider in your community. During in person consultations ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the procedure you’re interested in. For Commonly performed procedures like Liposuction or the BBL providers should be able to show at least 50 sets of before and after pictures. Being shown a handful of preselected pictures which probably represent the best results of the providers career is totally insufficient to get a clear understanding of what the average results look like. Ask the providers to show you examples of excellent outcomes, I have a job comes on less than outcomes. All surgeons have them. Improving on your arm results is going to be extremely difficult and considering that revision work is many times more difficult than primary Liposuction it should not be done by the same provider who did your first procedure. That provider can only make things worse. In the end it may not be possible to improve your arm outcome but if you’re going to have an attempt it needs to be done by someone who has mastered liposuction and fat transfer procedures. You need to be far more selective and careful in choosing your providers. Vet your plastic surgeons thoroughly before committing to permanent and irreversible operations. Finally I recommend reading all reviews and various physician review websites avoiding providers with any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is far more telling and more important than having an abundance of positive reviews. I would also recommend that you consider writing reviews about your experience with Liposuction. I’m sure you would’ve appreciated other patients describing similar experiences before you chose your provider for your previous procedure. Reviews whether positive or negative it should be written in a professional and appropriate manner. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
