PTT is prolonged am I still allowed to undergo surgery - Hi my PTT test was 3 seconds outside the normal/ reference value, asked a doctor about this and said they wouldn’t worry about this too much as it is still not an abnormal result and is insignificant. I would like to ask from a surgeon’s perspective if i would still be allowed to undergo rhinoplasty if my PTT was 3secs outside the normal value? My PT was normal as well as my other lab tests result. I have no current and previous medical issues and i have no smoking/alcohol problems. Thank you!

I agree with your surgeon that the value is likely not concerning. That said, however, the purpose of ordering blood work is to affect how you manage somebody. Since your level is abnormally elevated, which could represent a bleeding disorder, it would be easy enough to repeat this test. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

I agree that the ptt value is not significantly abnormal. We don’t even get that lab test for routine cases
