How do surgeons make nostrils less visible with a rhinoplasty?

Looking for a rhinoplasty surgeon who can make sure the nostrils dont end up more noticable. Im noticing many after photos, the nostrils are always more visible. There has only been a couple ive seen who dont and they seem to be shortening the columella with the surgery to counteract this?What is the way that some surgeons can prevent the nostrils from becoming visible where the nose is over projected?

Typically there are a few reasons to get nostril show. From the front view it is often because the tip is rotated up. From the side it can be because the columellar is too low (hanging columellar) or the nostril rim is too arched or high (alar retraction). All of these things should be discussed in your consultation and treated accordingly by your surgeon during your surgery. Using 3D imaging simulations can help to demonstrate these changes and ensure that you understand what is correctable.

Hi LuluThat is a difficult question to answer as I am not exactly sure what you mean without a consultation and examination of your nose. It is fair to say that most reduction rhinoplasty patients have a nose that is too long and requires the tip to be rotated up which gives more nostril show from the front. In short if you discuss the specific cosmetic requirements with your surgeon then you are likely to get the result that you are after if you pick a good surgeon. CheersDamien

Do you mean from the side Lulu? Unsupported noses following rhinoplasty leave people with many issues, one of the commonest being something called alar retraction where the nostrils are pulled up, and columella show where the columella hangs too low.These are both largely preventable, and good rhinoplasty surgeons will always take steps to minimise their occurrence. There are many methods, but the commonest are tensioning and suturing for the columella, and tensioning and alar rim grafts for the alae.I hope this helps.
