My nose is very wide and takes up my whole (very small face) I want to narrow it but am afraid of it looking fake and over done. I want a very subtle job. It is straight but very round and bulbous. Having a round face I feel I need it more angular . Is this possible ?

Answer: Rhinoplasty to narrow a wide nose Yes, closed rhinoplasty techniques can address narrowing a wide nose. To narrow the bridge line requires osteotomies placed in the nasal bones. Narrowing the tip requires suture techniques applied to the lower lateral cartilages of the nasal tip. Thick skin in the tip of the nose will be an impediment to seeing a very refined result. Digital computer imaging would be helpful to understand what can be accomplished with your nose upon your facial features. For many examples of narrowing a wide nose in our practice, please see the link and the video below

Answer: Subtle Rhinoplasty is a good goal Dear Emmageorge, Rhinoplasty in itself should always appear subtle or refined unless the patient requests something more dramatic. The ultimate goal of a rhinoplasty is to have a natural looking nose that you appear to be born with versus one that was purchased. Your nose should be balanced with your overall facial features to provide enhancement to your facial aesthetics. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.,
