Is mid-cheek filler the solution to nasolabial folds? 32 years old, losing volume in my cheeks. (photo)

I’ve noticed a significant decrease in facial volume from age 31 to 32 and with this, a deepening of nasolabial folds. I’ve always had them (having large cheeks my whole life), however since losing volume in my cheeks I feel I look much older than my 32 years! Side note: is this level of assymetry normal?

Hello, and thank you for your question. While a proper evaluation of your skin is necessary to recommend the best treatment options, nasolabial folds and loss of volume in the cheeks can be addressed using dermal fillers. Fillers can be injected to either directly fill the fold or by filling the cheek to lift the fold. You may also explore Botox, Profound RF (RF microneedling), and other laser and energy devices that boost collagen production to help further rejuvenate the skin. I recommend fillers to soften the nasolabial folds themselves and also lift around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. Appropriate volume in the cheeks play a central role in facial contour and facial aging. Appropriate volume in this area supports the under eye areas, with loss of volume contributing to the development of tear troughs and under eye hollows. Likewise, since the cheeks provide lift to the lower portions of the face, lloss of volume in the cheeks with the passage of time typically leads to the development of not only deepening smile lines, but to sagging and jowls and loss of definition along the jawline and marionette lines to the sides of the mouth. So, the short answer to your question is that treating the cheeks will most likely significantly improve the nasolabial folds. Best of luck.

From your photo it appears that cheek filler will give you a nice enhancement by lifting the cheek and improving the nasolabial fold area.  You will want to use a filler such as Restylane Lyft or Voluma for best results.  If that does not provide enough improvement you can also add filler to the nasolabial folds themselves.  Regarding asymmetry, we are all symmetric to some degree and yours is perfectly normal.

I do not have a good view of your face and cheeks but most of the time putting back volume that has been lost from cheeks is the best and most natural looking way to solve this problem. I think that a filler with some substance like Radiesse or Restlyane Lyft would do well.

Hi there,Based on the limited frontal view submitted analyzing your facial structures reveal the following:1. Volume loss mid- lower face more prominent on the left.( your left ). 2. Prominence of naso-labial folds. 3. Volume loss in lower face as a result of #1. 4. Blurred definition of the chin-jawline leading to increase in extended mental crease and marionette lines. In our patient population we do see facial asymmetry depending on the natural forces such as environmental exposures to sun light, sleeping primarily on one side or even genetics. Your bone structure based on the view submitted looks good. The lips are well anatomically shaped and do not require any significant augmentation.At our office we address these issues with correction of the mid face utilizing high G prime filler, such as Voluma or Restylane Lyft. It is absolutely normal to have facial asymmetry as every individual on this planet has it. In the majority of individuals to left side of the face is considerably wider than the right. For facial volume loss, in my opinion, the best treatment is fat grafting.
