I've had silicone breast implants for 10 month already. Some days ago I play jet ski and hit the water on my chest. I was wearing life jacket but still my chest hurt, numb and sore. Two days after, my hand get numb also and I have back pain. Is it a sign I get ruptured? Thanks for the answer.
Answer: Not All Symptoms Are From Implants These symptoms are probably not related to an implant rupture rather to an injury to your nerves. I would see an orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon to see the nature of your jet ski injuries,Re: general information about ruptures:For silicone implants prior to 2006, ruptures occur at rates of approximately 1-2% per year for the first ten years then markedly increases after that time period. A rupture or deflation of the implant may be experienced at any point after the initial augmentation; this complication may be increased by an under-filling or overfilling of saline solution into the implant, excessive compression, trauma, and other causes. (If the implant shell if not filled with the correct amount of saline, there may be a crease or fold in the shell which often leads to a rupture). You will be able to self-diagnose the need for an implant exchange (if using a saline implant) because if the current implant ruptures, the breast will shrink to approximately its preoperative size. A silicone implant that has a rupture is usually noted on a routine mammogram or MRI scan. In either case although the situation needs to be corrected on a timely basis, it is not dangerous to your health from our current knowledge base. Silicone implants after 2006 are more cohesive and less likely to leak.

Answer: Implant Ruptures Thank you for your question. An implant can rupture from trauma, and it is best evaluated by the surgeon, board certified plastic surgeon, who did your surgery. There is no way to know without an exam. And if they are suspicious of a rupture, they may want you to have a mammogram or other exam to determine a rupture. Typically, the implants are pretty tough, and durable, but they can rupture. I hope this helps!

Answer: Jet skiing and implant rupture Thank you for your question. It would be very unlikely that a fall from a jet ski would rupture an implant. They are designed to take a fair amount of force. A sore or numb chest or arm is not a sign of a ruptured implant.

Answer: Rupture? It is very unlikely that your implants ruptured from water hitting your chest from jet skiing. Your pain, numbness and swelling is somewhat concerning and you should see your surgeon to make sure everything is ok.

Answer: Implants can be ruptured from jet ski? I am sorry to hear about the trauma you have sustained. Generally speaking, it is very difficult to “rupture” current silicone gel breast implants. However, your symptoms are concerning for other potential injury, such as a back or neck injury… Best to be evaluated clinically in an urgent care/emergency room environment. Best wishes.
