My hair transplant 6 months later looks to be about 50% density in the best areas with 30-40 grafts per cm growing and only about 10% in some very sparse areas towards the middle of my head, with a small 0.5-0.5cm area with no hairs at all... The original density was 2177 grafts in a 30sq.cm area with 470 1 hair grafts, 1495 2 hair grafts and 212 3 hair grafts, which should have been a cosmetically thick 70 grafts per cm. Should I have had much better by now?

Generally it is not advisable to use hair wax as this will harm the existing, not the transplanted hair. Topik can be used as this is washed out and does not affect the hair.
This is expected, but what you are seeing is the shedding of the transplanted graft crusts along with some of the hairs. The roots are still there, so don't worry. You should see hair growth by the 8th month or earlier.
